For decades, we've been told there are only two ways to lose weight:

  1. Eat far less than you want = Daily mental torture.

  2. Exercise until it hurts = Physical punishment disguised as "health".

After 30 years in clinical practice, I can tell you with absolute certainty:

Excess weight isn't a character flaw. It's your body's response to an internal imbalance.


When I examine patients struggling with weight, I commonly find:

  • Weakened digestion – food isn't being properly processed, creating internal toxins.

  • Sluggish metabolism – energy that should fuel you is being stored as fat.

  • Poor circulation – waste products accumulate instead of being eliminated.

  • Stressed organs – your body is in survival mode, not thriving mode.


You can starve yourself and exercise relentlessly, but if these underlying issues remain unaddressed, your body will always return to its previous state. The problem was never the fat itself—it was the system that created it.


My Own Unexpected Discovery I should tell you something personal.


Five years ago, I weighed 65kg. Not uncomfortable, but I'd often think, "It would be nice to feel lighter" or "That dress would look better if I lost a bit of weight. "But here's the thing: even as a TCM practitioner, I had no desire to starve myself or spend hours at the gym. So I didn't. For years, nothing changed.


Then I made one simple decision. For general health—not weight loss—I started walking for an hour, 3–4 times a week. No target. No pressure. Just pleasant walks. Something unexpected happened. Over the course of a year, I lost 5kg without even trying. I wasn't eating less. I wasn't exercising harder. My body was simply rebalancing.


Then I did something else. I started following the therapeutic meal plan I'd developed for my patients—a plan designed not for weight loss, but for restoring digestive function, metabolic health, and detox. In just three months, another 7kg came off. Total: 12kg.No calorie counting. No gym membership. No willpower battles. Just walking. Eating well. And allowing my body to heal.


What Made the Difference?


Looking back, three things were radically different from traditional dieting:

  1. I never went hungry In fact, I ate until I felt comfortably satisfied at every meal. The food was nourishing, properly prepared, and aligned with what my body actually needed.

  2. Movement was enjoyable, not punishing Walking is gentle. Restorative. Something I could (and wanted to) do for the rest of my life.

  3. My body's systems were being restored As my digestion improved, my metabolism naturally increased. As circulation improved, inflammation decreased. The weight loss was simply a side effect of becoming healthier.


This wasn't dieting. It was my body returning to its natural state.


The Patients Who Taught Me I Was Right


Since then, I've guided many patients through this same approach. The feedback I hear most often isn't about the numbers on the scale. It's this: "I'm sleeping through the night for the first time in years."  "My digestion has completely transformed." "I don't think about food constantly anymore."  "I feel like myself again." And yes, they lose weight. But more importantly, it stays off. Because they're not white-knuckling their way through deprivation. They're living in a body that finally works properly. One patient said it perfectly: "I came in wanting to lose weight. But what I got back was my health—and the weight loss just followed."
